City of Stow Announces Appointment of Drew Reilly as New Law Director

Drew Reilly Appointment

The City of Stow is pleased to announce the appointment of Drew Reilly as the new Law Director, succeeding Jaime Syx, who has resigned to pursue a new professional opportunity. Mayor Pribonic made the appointment after careful consideration of Reilly's outstanding qualifications and dedication to public service.

Drew Reilly has been an integral part of the City of Stow's legal team, serving as the Deputy Law Director since 2022. With experience and a deep understanding of municipal law, Reilly is well prepared to take on the responsibilities of the Law Director role. His commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal excellence and his proven record of accomplishment make him an excellent choice for this position.

Mayor Pribonic expressed confidence in Drew Reilly's ability to lead the legal department and continue the city's tradition of sound legal counsel. "Drew has consistently demonstrated his legal expertise, dedication, and a strong commitment to the residents of Stow. I am confident that he will excel in his new role as Law Director," stated Mayor Pribonic.

“I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to serve in the role of Law Director for the City of Stow. I look forward to continuing the great work of all the staff here at the City. I am excited for the chance to further the vision of Mayor Pribonic’s administration, while also working closely with Council President Cyle Feldman and Finance Director Kelly Toppin. Being able to serve in this role during such an exciting time of energy and progress is such an honor,” expressed Reilly.

The City of Stow extends its gratitude to Jaime Syx for her valuable contributions during her tenure as Law Director. Her dedication to the city and her legal acumen have been instrumental in various initiatives and legal matters.

Drew Reilly was officially sworn into the position of Law Director on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Stow City Hall. The City of Stow looks forward to continued collaboration with Reilly as he takes on this new leadership role.

ABOUT DREW REILLY

Drew was born and raised in the village of Mogadore in Northeast Ohio. After attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO, and a brief stint interning at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, Drew returned home to Northeast Ohio, and got involved in local government. Jumping in with both feet, Drew ran his first County-wide campaigns in 2012, with successful re-elections of

County Executive Russ Pry, Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise, and (then) Clerk of Courts Daniel Horrigan. During this time, Drew was also appointed to Village Council in his hometown of Mogadore, serving as the youngest voice on council at the age of 22.

Following the 2012 campaigns, Drew took a job in the administration of Executive Russ Pry, where he served as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff. During this time, Drew also attended law school at the University of Akron School of Law. By this time, Drew and his wife, Samantha, had purchased their first house in the City of Cuyahoga Falls. After graduating and passing the Ohio Bar Exam in 2017, Drew successfully ran for Ward 1 Councilmember in the City of Cuyahoga Falls.

Drew began his legal career clerking for Judge Nicole Walker in the Akron Municipal Court. At that time, Drew began his work with housing justice, and landlord-tenant law. He also volunteered with the International Institute of Akron, representing detainees pro-bono during bond proceedings in front of Federal Immigration Court.

Drew and Samantha had their first child, Jameson Patrick, in 2019, the same year that Drew was successfully reelected to Ward 1 Council. In 2020, Drew began a new job with the Summit County Land Reutilization Corporation (Summit County Land Bank), working as in-house counsel. In this role, Drew was able to continue to focus on housing justice, and other avenues of real estate and housing law., including expanding his practice areas to zoning enforcement, economic development, and environmental remediation.   Drew, Samantha, and Jameson also relocated to Stow, OH, in 2020 and Drew stepped off Cuyahoga Falls council.

In 2022, Drew was appointed as Deputy Law Director for the City of Stow, under Law Director Jaime Syx. In this role, Drew has been able to expand his knowledge of local government, and municipal law. He helped create the Administrative Hearing Board for Zoning violation remediation, and wrote the City’s zoning policy on Reasonable Accommodations, helping to ensure that residents with disabilities would be able to more successfully navigate the zoning and permitting process.

Drew is an alumnus of the 2019 Class of the Akron Bar Association Leadership Academy, while also having served as the Chair of the New Lawyers Section of the Bar Association, a recipient of the 2021 Greater Akron Chamber “30 For the Future” award, and is a 2021 graduate of the Akron Torchbearers. He also served on the Summit County Eviction Task Force, the Summit County Special Committee on Racism as a Public Health Crisis, and the Board of Directors for Summit Choral Society.
