Community Policing

Community Policing is not a program, but a different way of doing business. The City of Stow Police Department joined a nationwide shift from a law enforcement/criminal justice focus to one of networking between citizens and government to answer the question of how to do more with less to solve crime.

• Safe Watch Group: Volunteers who are older adults living in an independent setting work together the same way as neighborhood watch. They prevent scams and create confidence to combat the fear of crime. Upcoming Safe Watch meetings are published regularly in the Stow Sentry and are also listed on the City Meeting Calendar.
• Cops-N-Shops: Officers are assigned to a major retail area or plaza within their district, and make contact with managers and store employees in a collaborative effort to solve problems or alleviate concerns unique to that area or establishment. The goal is to foster a working relationship between officers and the business community and to deter theft offenses, vandalism, and various parking violations.
• Adopt-A-Cop: The goal of this program is to foster positive relationships between police officers and members of the school community. During school hours, the officers promote interaction with students in grades K - 8, teachers, volunteers, parents, and staff.
