Under governmental aggregation, local officials bring citizens together to gain group buying power for the purchase of competitively priced electricity from a retail electric generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
In November 2000, City of Stow residents voted to allow the City to contract for an electric generation supplier on their behalf. FirstEnergy Solutions, a PUCO certified electric marketer from Akron, Ohio. They have served a number of electric aggregation programs across Ohio over the past eight years. They can be contacted at 1-866-636-3749.
The local utility, Ohio Edison will continue to deliver your electricity, read your meters, and issue your monthly bills. You will continue to call Ohio Edison at 1-800-633-4766 for emergency repairs, downed power lines and billing questions.
The current aggregate has a 3 year anniversary date, after which residents may “opt-out” without incurring a cancellation fee. If a resident opts out prior to their anniversary date, there is a $25 switching fee. (Current aggregate expires in April 2018)
If a resident opts out, then subsequently re-enrolls, and then attempts to opt-out again prior to their anniversary date, they will be charged a $25 switching fee by First Energy. If a resident opts out, enrolls with another company, and then attempts to opt-out from that “contract” prior to their anniversary date, they will be charged a switching fee that currently ranges from $25 to $100. The $25 cancellation fee that is currently part of our aggregate was the lowest fee that we could negotiate. Other providers had cancellation fees ranging from $50 to $100.
